KOTA KINABALU: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) calls for the Federal Government’s ‘stay of execution’ application, filed over the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling on Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue rights, to be challenged locally.

Its president, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the Attorney General’s Chambers had sought to suspend the High Court decision, which previously set a 180-day period for the Federal and Sabah Governments to negotiate repayment of Sabah’s 40 per cent entitlement.

“I have conveyed my views in Cabinet and my party. UPKO feels this decision must be challenged,” he said.

“This is UPKO’s stance because we do not want to see any efforts to delay what the court has ruled,” he added.

Ewon, who is also Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industry , Entrepreneurship and Transport (MINDET) , made these remarks to reporters at the Sabah State Railway Department’s breaking-of-fast event here today.

He reiterated that UPKO believes the Attorney General’s application should be contested in Sabah to defend the court ruling.

“UPKO views that the Attorney General’s application should be challenged by us in Sabah."

“I believe the Sabah Attorney General’s Chambers will issue their statement, but UPKO has conveyed its view that the matter should be challenged,” he said.
