KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has challenged the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government to immediately call for a Special Parliamentary Session to prove that Tan Sri Muhyiddin still has his majority support.
Its president Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that there is no need to wait until the Parliamentary sitting in September for a vote of confidence if it was indeed true that the Prime Minister still has the majority.
"The Prime Minister's statement through his Special Message today claiming that the Government still has a majority is not true. Previously, PN only had 114 MPs in support.
"I have presented a letter enclosing eight Statutory Declarations (SD) from Umno MPs to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah on July 30 to express the withdrawal of support for Muhyiddin as Prime Minister.
"This is enough to show that his leadership has lost the majority, even though the number is more than that," he said in a media statement, today.
According to Zahid, the number of Declaration Letters from Umno MPs has also increased after the Supreme Council made the latest decision on Aug 3 to withdraw support for PN and Muhyiddin.
He said the letters had been sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present the additional SD as an extension of his previous letter.
Earlier, Muhyiddin in his special message today stressed that the Government is still standing firm and he is still the rightful Prime Minister.
