KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Trade and Domestic Affairs has received internet backlashes for uploading a campaign video on its Twitter that features a brief message on the habit of overspending in supermarkets.

According to most netizens who took to Twitter to express their anger, the 19-second captioned "Jangan Lebih-Lebih... Elakkan pembaziran" does not reflect the real problems faced by the people in the current economy situation.

Some even reckoned that the message is tone deaf and that the government is "out of touch" with the people and not being able to understand the real situation.

They commented that the people barely have any money to waste with prices of goods keep increasing and minimum wage still at mere RM1,200.

The #KerajaanGagal (failed government) hashtag which was trending on Twitter as well as #MuhyiddinOut and #TamatDarurat (end state emergency) were also sighted in some of tweets.

The video which was uploaded on the ministry's official Twitter account yesterday has garnered over 300,000 views, 312 tweets and 1,867 quote tweets.
