LABUAN: Deputy Minister III cum Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, Datuk Ewon Benedick, is confident that revenue collections by the Sabah Ports and Harbours Department (JPDS) can be further elevated in the future.
He stated that surpassing RM40 million in revenue in 2025 proves the department's capabilities and high commitment among its staff in fulfilling their duties.
"My highest appreciation to the director and all JPDS staff for their outstanding performance, which helped the Sabah State Government achieve revenue collections of RM40,763,969.76 last year."

"I've been in this ministry for about five months, and every time there's a discussion, I see the strong commitment from JPDS, the director, and the officers to attend and provide input. That's why I'm very confident that these collections can be increased further."
"Naturally, the ministry has a responsibility to ensure roles are channelled effectively, so not only do collections rise, but JPDS staff motivation is also strengthened," he said.
He said this while officiating the JPDS 2025 Appreciation and Gratitude Ceremony here yesterday.
Ewon said the achievement not only reflects the department's efficiency and dedication in state revenue collection but also underscores JPDS's vital role as a significant contributor to Sabah's economy, particularly in the maritime sector.
"This embodies the Sabah First spirit, prioritising state development, local economic strength, and public welfare in every action and decision," he added.
He further noted that this success stems from a spirit of collaboration and a culture of integrity that forms the core of JPDS's strength.
Ewon also praised JPDS's digitalisation efforts through the E-JPDS app, describing it as a forward step in enhancing public service delivery efficiency.
He said the initiative reflects strong commitment to realising the Sabah State Government's aspirations in strengthening Digital Government.
"I hope JPDS will continue to proactively explore new innovations, expand digital technology use, and enhance staff capabilities in line with current developments," he said.
Regarding the event, Ewon described it as an important platform for appreciating civil servants' contributions.
"Congratulations to the three recipients of the Director's Special Award and 23 recipients of the 2025 Excellent Service Award (APC). I hope these awards will motivate the entire JPDS team," he said.
He emphasised that a department's success does not depend on individuals alone but requires close teamwork to achieve collective excellence.
Also present were Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Datuk Jonnybone Kurum; the ministry's Permanent Secretary Datuk Thomas Logijin; Deputy Permanent Secretary of MINDET Moira David; and JPDS Director Maswandie Maimoon.
