PENAMPANG: Flood conditions in Penampang and Kadamaian, including several Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) and affected areas, were inspected by the

Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick.

This morning, he visited the PPS at Sacred Heart Inobong Hall, which is currently sheltering 208 evacuees from Kampung Inobong, Kampung Kimoligan and Kampung Putaton.

The water level of the Moyog River continues to overflow into residential areas across many villages in Inobong.

Yesterday, Ewon also visited the PPS in Kampung Ramayah, which is accommodating 87 evacuees from Kampung Nambazan and Kampung Limbanak.

Ewon, who is also the Member of Parliament for Penampang, said the Penampang District Disaster Management Committee has distributed initial assistance in the form of food, drinks and mattresses to evacuees at the PPS.

However, he noted that the main road from Donggongon town to PPS Kg Ramayah remains impassable for the delivery of cooked meals, forcing evacuees to prepare the raw food supplies provided to them.

“Alternative routes via Jalan Divato Tomui and Jalan Guunsing are also flooded but still passable to vehicles,” he said following the inspection today.

Meanwhile, in Kadamaian, after officiating the Kadamaian People’s Convention yesterday, Ewon, who is also the State Assemblyman for the constituency, inspected flood-hit areas in Kampung Pangi, Kampung Pituru and Kampung Pompod, where the main access road is no longer passable to small vehicles.

“If the water level rises further, even larger vehicles will not be able to use the main road, leaving residents stranded in their homes,” he said.

He added that the Kota Belud District Disaster Management Committee has sent food and drinks to Kampung Pituru and Kampung Pangi, while assistance will also be extended to Kampung Pompod.

“In addition, several individuals, in collaboration with four-wheel drive clubs, have delivered food baskets to affected residents,” he said.

Ewon said he remains in constant communication with the village JKKK chairpersons to receive updates and ensure that assistance reaches flood victims without delay.

“The Kadamaian Constituency Service Centre will also provide additional food baskets to complement the official aid from the District Disaster Management Committee,” he said.
