KOTA KINABALU: Continuous spread of Covid-19 has forced three localities in Tawau to endure another 14-days of enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the order in the localities was supposed to end tomorrow and Thursday.

The localities involved are Kampung Ranggu Batu in Mukim Balung, Kampung Baru Pasir Putih in Mukim Sri Tanjung, and Kampung Simpang 3A in Merotal Besar.

Masidi stated that the Health Ministry has conducted 265 screening tests in Kampung Ranggu Batu and a cumulative total of 66 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19.

"There are a total of 122 test samples that are still pending results and the spread of Covid-19 is still happening in this locality.

Meanwhile, in Kampung Baru Pasir Putih, a total of 847 individuals have been screened where 68 of them tested positive while the balance of the test samples is still pending results.

"Kampung Ranggu and Kampung Baru Pasir Putih will undergo another period of EMCO from April 15-28," he said in a press statement today.

For Kampung Simpang 3A in Merotai Besar, Masidi said 28 individuals have tested positive.

"A total of 745 individuals have been screened but 696 of the test samples are still awaiting results.

"It was also found that Covid-19 transmission is still occurring among the villagers of this locality," he mentioned.

"After conducting joint risk assessment with various agencies in the MCO Technical Committee and on the advice of the Health Ministry, the state government has decided to extend the EMCO implementation in this locality from April 16-29."
