BINTULU: Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) , Datuk Tiong King Sing, attended the launch of the Sarawak Basic Necessities Contribution (SKAS) 2026 at the Dudong constituency today, emphasising the government’s ongoing commitment to support those in need.

The event was organised to distribute aid directly to eligible recipients within the area, reinforcing the Sarawak Government’s efforts to ensure assistance reaches the rakyat amidst rising living costs.

Launched last year, the SKAS initiative aims to provide targeted financial support to help ease the burden on low-income households.

In his speech, Tiong expressed his appreciation to Sarawak’s Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, for his leadership and steadfast dedication in implementing initiatives that benefit the community.

He highlighted that these programmes underscore the government’s concern for the welfare of the rakyat, especially those within the B40 group facing financial challenges.

This year, the Sarawak Government announced an increase in aid for recipients: household aid will rise from RM800 to RM950, senior citizens will now receive RM500 instead of RM400, and singles will benefit from an increase from RM250 to RM300. The disbursement of aid will occur gradually across March, May, and November.

Tiong who is Dudong State Assemblyman urged recipients to utilise the assistance wisely to meet their daily needs and advised them to avoid wasteful spending or unnecessary purchases.

The Minister also promoted the use of the Sarawak Government’s official e-wallet, SPay Global, which enables cashless transactions.

He noted that over 90 per cent of recipients have already registered and are actively using the application, contributing to a more efficient distribution process.

The event underscores the Sarawak Government’s ongoing efforts to support its citizens and foster financial resilience across communities.
