The appointment was announced by MCBA President Dato’ Sri Dr. Ricky Yaw during the Lunar New Year Celebration – Year of the Horse Dinner, an event that brought together prominent members of the business community and distinguished guests.
Among those present were Honorary President of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce Sabah, Datuk Lau Kok Sing; Deputy CEO of MATRADE, S. In his remarks, Ricky highlighted that the establishment of the East Malaysia Chapter demonstrates MCBA’s dedication to strengthening its presence nationwide and fostering a more inclusive business network.
He stressed that this initiative aligns with the association’s goal of promoting greater regional integration and economic collaboration.
Accepting the appointment, Dexter expressed his gratitude to Ricky for his efforts in integrating East Malaysia into the association’s broader network. He noted that including Sabah and Sarawak will help create a truly national platform, facilitating stronger connections among Malaysian businesses and enhancing bilateral cooperation with Cambodia.
“The expansion will not only reinforce Malaysia’s business network but also foster closer engagement with government entities, encouraging increased investment flows between Malaysia and Cambodia,” he said.
Dexter emphasised that East Malaysia, comprising Sabah and Sarawak, occupies a strategic position in Borneo and presents substantial potential in sectors such as agriculture and agro-processing, tourism, renewable resources, halal industries, logistics, and regional trade.
“With the right platforms and partnerships, East Malaysia can play a more prominent role in advancing Malaysia–Cambodia economic cooperation,” he added.
As Chairman of the MCBA East Malaysia Chapter, Dexter revealed plans to establish a new council comprising members from the local business community. This council will support the association’s initiatives and help further strengthen trade and investment links between Malaysia and Cambodia.
The creation of the East Malaysia Chapter is expected to enhance collaboration between businesses from both nations and open up new opportunities for investment and economic growth.
