KOTA KINABALU: The International Youth Leadership Training Programme is set to play a significant role in shaping young leaders into impactful change-makers for the future.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor stated, “The world needs your ideas, your energy, and your vision. The challenges we face as a society demand fresh perspectives and bold action. I am confident that each of you brings unique strengths and insights that will enrich the discussions over the coming days.”

He made the remarks during the opening of the International Youth Leadership Training held today at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Hajiji emphasised the importance of nurturing young talent, saying, “We want to see our youth continue to rise to leadership challenges. It is essential that we recognise and cultivate their potential.”

“Encouraging young people to engage actively in community initiatives and leadership training is crucial to developing a new generation equipped to address the complexities of the modern world,” he added.

His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.

The programme, which brings together youth leaders from 12 Southeast Asian and Pacific countries, is organised by the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) in collaboration with the United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA), as well as several state and federal government departments, agencies, and NGOs in Sabah.

“I hope this leadership training enhances your abilities, fosters collaboration, and offers opportunities for meaningful dialogue and learning from one another’s experiences,” Hajiji said.

“Remember, leadership is not merely about holding positions of authority – it is about influence, responsibility, and service to others. Step out of your comfort zones, embrace new ideas, and engage meaningfully with your peers.

“Build connections and share your stories. Embark on this journey of learning, growth, and inspiration. Once again, welcome, and make the most of this opportunity to create a truly transformative experience,” he added.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that, through the training and guidance provided by RISEAP, participants would emerge as capable and competent individuals, aligned with the Malaysia Madani Government’s aspirations and the human capital development goals outlined in the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan.

“I believe the mentors involved in this programme, as provided by RISEAP, will succeed in achieving its intended objectives,” he said.

Hajiji also extended his gratitude to RISEAP, under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Openg, for selecting Sabah as the host for this year’s International Youth Leadership Training Programme.
