KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Government agreeing to revoke the emergency ordinances and not extend the state of emergency beyond Aug is all thanks to Umno, said Supreme Council Member Azalina Othman Said.

Citing a press release issued yesterday by Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, she said the party has outlined that the emergency proclamation and ordinances should be repealed.

"In this regard, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Umno president and leadership who had since the beginning upheld the command of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"I am confident that such a continuous pressure from Umno has borne fruit, as the Federal Government agrees to the pressure," said the deputy speaker in her statement today.

Law Minister Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan has earlier made the announcements during the special parliamentary sitting at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said all the emergency ordinances were revoked on July 21 as the government decided to cancel them under Article 153 of the Federal Constitution.
