KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Penampang Youth Chief, Ceaser Mandela Malakun commended the inclusion of GRS in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led unity government, stating that it will boost political stability in the state and investor confidence.

Ceaser noted that it is the right move in view of the looming threat of global recession next year which would affect the country.

“We welcome the newly-minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s press statement this morning confirming that the GRS-led State Government will be part of the unity government.

“With the looming threat of global recession next year that will affect our country, our economy will inevitably face some difficulties.

“Sabah and Sarawak will be affected as we are two of the biggest oil and gas & palm oil producing states in Malaysia and lowering export demands due to slower growth may in turn impact state revenue.

“With this risk of a slower global economic growth as a result of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, geopolitical uncertainty and global inflation pressure in 2023, it is important that we have a strong and stable unity government in Malaysia,” he said in a statement.

He foresees that political stability will boost investor confidence especially in industrial manufacturing and tourism thus enables the GRS to continue making the SMJ Development Plan 1.0 (2021-2025) a success.

A Pakatan Harapan senior leader, has been reported saying that the coalition has all along recognized Sarawak’s GPS and Sabah’ GRS state governments as the Borneo Bloc that it should work with when it comes to power.

Responding to this, Ceasar said that now that the GPS-GRS Borneo Bloc has given full support to the unity government, it is hoped that all parties can finally move on forward and focus on bringing development to the country in particular to Sabah and Sarawak.
