MENUMBOK: The list of candidates representing Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will be announced on 12 November, three days before nomination day for the 17th Sabah state election.

The date was confirmed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor when commenting on reports that several political parties plan to announce their candidates earlier, starting this weekend.

He said that while any party is free to reveal its candidates at any time, GRS has fixed 12 November — which falls on a Wednesday — as the official date to unveil its line-up for the state polls scheduled for 29 November.

“We have already finalised the seat allocations. If others wish to make their announcements earlier, that’s up to them. We will make ours later, on 12 November,” he said.

Hajiji was speaking after officiating the Launch of the Kuala Penyu and Menumbok Sub-District Strategic Development Plan 2025–2035, the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) House Key Handover Ceremony, the Land Gazette Presentation, and the Limus Jury Foundation Aid Presentation, held at the Menumbok tamu site on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Hajiji, who also serves as GRS Chairman, reiterated his confidence in the coalition’s ability to secure a renewed mandate to govern the state after the 17th Sabah state election on 29 November.

He said his confidence is grounded in the strength of the coalition’s line-up of “winnable candidates” contesting in all constituencies.

“We are only fielding candidates who have a genuine chance of winning, including here in Kuala Penyu. I’ve already hinted at this earlier, and we remain confident of victory in this election.

“If we win, we will continue implementing the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 development roadmap to ensure the continuity of Sabah’s development initiatives,” he said.

On another matter, the Chief Minister agreed that the proposed construction of a bridge linking the Federal Territory of Labuan with mainland Sabah should be revisited with the Federal Government.

He said such a facility is crucial not only for improving connectivity between the island and mainland Sabah but also for boosting the economy of the Menumbok sub-district and Kuala Penyu area.
