Harvest Festival with a twist

KOTA BELUD: The Harvest Festival at Kg Melangkap witnessed the promotion of agencies under the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC).

This event showcased booths, including information on the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM) and Angkasa. There was also a cooperative sales, where the price of essential goods such as rice, cooking oil and noodles, among others went for 30 percent lower than the prices of those in conventional shops.

During the festival, MEDC Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick emphasized the festival's transformation from a mere cultural celebration into an opportunity for the community to learn about enhancing their livelihoods.

He encouraged combining festive joy with knowledge on entrepreneurship and cooperatives, stating that this is the true role of a people's representative or a State Assemblyman – to ensure his constituents gained prosperity through government initiatives and benefits.

He further explained, "While I can be physically present in Kadamaian every day, it is crucial to have the strength to bring about development, rather than by just being there."

Meanwhile, Anichlose Kosimin the organising chairman of the harvest festival in Melangkap said he was thankful to the Minister for gracing the function.

He said Ewon, the Kadamaian State Assemblyman had been very helpful and dedicated a lot of his efforts and assistance to the Melangkap region.

He said Ewon had assisted in ensuring the establishment of halls and other developments in the area even before he became a Minister

He also lauded the presence of agencies under MEDC that are available as this ensured that aspiring entrepreneurs can access more information about the subjects.

He commended the unity and support among the Melangkap Zone residents, stressing that without their cooperation and support, the festival would not have been successful.
