HIRE ONLY LEGAL, REGISTERED WORKERS, CIDB TELLS CONTRACTORS

14 JAN 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) has urged contractors to only hire registered workers or with legal documents to avoid disciplinary action.

In a statement today, CIDB stressed that employers who are found to hire illegal workers with fake documents could face disciplinary action which could cause the contractor’s registration to be suspended or revoked.

“Employers must be sensitive and cautious of the status of workers who are not registered and certified for their competency to carry out construction works as it can be hazardous,” it said.

The statement was issued following recent news reports on forgery of immigration documents, iKad and CIDB Card by syndicates.

According to CIDB, employers could quickly and easily confirm their workers' information through the Construction Personnel Directory at CIDB’s Centralised Information Management System (CIMS) portal at cims.cidb.gov.my.

“Under Act 520, all construction workers must register with CIDB to conduct work at construction sites. Individuals found to commence construction works without valid registration can be fined not more than RM5,000,” it said.

Contractors are also liable to face stern action if they are found to be involved with document forgery and intentionally hire workers with fake cards. -Bernama
