KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu’s tourism scene received a major boost with the soft launch of the city’s first Hop-On Hop-Off (HOHO) City Tour Bus, offering locals and visitors a new way to explore 17 of the city’s most iconic attractions.

The event, officiated by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew, represented by Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Dr Sabin Samitah, marked the beginning of a service designed to enhance the city’s vibrancy and accessibility.

The HOHO buses will connect a diverse mix of cultural landmarks, leisure destinations and modern attractions, including the Atkinson Clock Tower, Sabah Museum, Kota Kinabalu City Mosque, Suria Sabah Mall, Imago Mall, Tanjung Aru Beach, Sutera Harbour Resort and the Sabah International Convention Centre, it's Chairman Datuk Tan Kok Liang said.

Other stops include KK Sentral, Oceanus Mall, the Handicraft Market, Likas Bay, Anjung Selera, Yayasan Sabah, Sabah Art Gallery, KK Chocolate House and Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort.

“The KK Hop-On Hop-Off is more than just a sightseeing bus. It brings vibrancy to our streets, opportunities to small businesses, and convenience to our visitors. By connecting 17 of our most iconic landmarks, it allows travellers to see, taste, and experience the very essence of Kota Kinabalu,” said the Chairman of KK HOHO.

Two 60-seater double-decker buses, each 4.2 metres high, will operate daily from 9am to 6pm, at one-hour intervals. Ticket prices have been set affordably: RM30 for Malaysian adults and RM20 for children, while international visitors will be charged RM45 for adults and RM25 for children.

To cater to diverse travellers, onboard commentary will be available in six languages such as English, Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, Korean and Japanese.

In a gesture of appreciation, the organisers announced the distribution of 1,500 complimentary tickets to partners and stakeholders to experience the service first-hand.

The Chairman also acknowledged the contributions of government agencies, stakeholders, and joint venture partner Loo Kok Seong, who initiated the project two years ago.

With this initiative, Kota Kinabalu now joins the ranks of other world-class cities offering hop-on hop-off services, promising memorable experiences for visitors while strengthening the city’s tourism industry.
