KOTA BELUD: Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, proposed to the residents of Kampung Sayap who received Community Lot Certificates the permission to cultivate vegetable farm within the Sabah Parks to establish a cooperative.

He said that the village residents could establish a tourism or agricultural cooperative, which is highly suitable for implementation in the village.

"I welcome the efforts that the village residents are about to undertake, including the establishment of cooperatives to develop the areas involved in the issuance of community lot certificates.

"My ministry, through our agencies, has suitable schemes, programmes, and financing to assist village residents in realising their desire to establish cooperatives," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after presenting the Community Lot Certificates for Sabah Parks at the Kg.Sayap Community Hall, here, today.

Ewon said that a total of 70 residents of Kampung Sayap received 90 lots involving an area of over 200 acres.

Out of the total lot recipients, 47 people received them this year, while the rest were given several years ago.

"Upon my return from overseas, I will launch another ministry programme, namely the Tourism Cooperative Stimulus.

"A total of RM2 million is provided by my ministry through the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) to support cooperatives involved in tourism business activities," he said.

He said that most of the tourism cooperatives are in Sabah, including in the Kadamaian and Kota Belud areas.

"I hope that the residents of Kampung Sayap will create opportunities to further develop tourism activities in this village through the establishment of cooperatives," he said.
