KOTA KINABALU: KK Sentral was officially transformed into a dazzling new city landmark following the launch of the “City of Lights” project, held on Tuesday evening at the grounds of the KK Sentral building.

In a speech delivered during the launch, Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Dato' Sri Dr Haji Sabin Samitah, commended DBKK Holdings for once again taking up the challenge to revitalise KK Sentral, turning it into a symbol of modern illumination for the city.

“The vision of KK Sentral as a shining landmark in Kota Kinabalu is finally becoming a reality,” said the Mayor. “Not long ago, this site was often labelled a white elephant project, but with the initiative of DBKK Holdings and strong backing from DBKK, it has been transformed into a vibrant, well-lit space that will surely capture public interest.”

As part of the revitalisation, the site will also feature the largest LED screen in Sabah—and possibly in Malaysia. The installation is expected to be completed by August 2025, further enhancing KK Sentral’s profile as a prominent hub of activity and visual spectacle.

“With these developments, KK Sentral is set to become a new focal point of light and life in Kota Kinabalu,” Dr Sabin added.

The launch marks a new chapter in the city’s efforts to boost urban appeal and showcase Sabah’s growing modern infrastructure.

During the event the Mayor also officially launched the KK Central Handicrafts and KK Central Seafood Noodles.
