KOTA BELUD: Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said that the Kota Belud Industrial Park Master Plan will be presented to the State Cabinet at the upcoming Sabah Cabinet meeting.
Ewon, who is also the Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said the tabling of the cabinet paper is in line with the State Government’s earlier announcement to develop new industrial parks in Kota Belud and Kudat as part of efforts to strengthen economic growth in the state.
He added that the development of the Kota Belud Industrial Park will be undertaken by Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP), an agency under the Ministry of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport.
“As the agency mandated to implement this industrial park, we will submit this cabinet paper, and I am very confident that the Chief Minister and other members of the Cabinet will support this proposal, enabling us to begin marketing efforts and attract investors,” he said.
He said this after attending a Hari Raya open house at Kg. Tegudon here the day before yesterday.
Ewon, who is also the Kadamaian State Assemblyman, said the state government will hold discussions with major companies, both domestic and international, to encourage them to consider investing and establishing operations in the industrial park.
“As one of the assemblymen for the Kota Belud area, this is certainly a source of pride as we will be creating economic opportunities for the local community—both for existing entrepreneurs to participate in service chain activities and for graduates from Kota Belud to work with companies that will operate in the Kota Belud Industrial Park in the future,” he said.
He also informed that he will lead trade missions abroad and accompany the Chief Minister, particularly to China, to meet potential investors.
“This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with state and federal government agencies to strengthen Sabah’s economy, provide employment opportunities for graduates, and create avenues for local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to participate in industrial service chains,” he said.
Ewon added that, overall, approximately 13,000 acres have been identified for the development of the industrial park, which will be implemented in phases subject to the State Cabinet’s decision.
“In terms of location, specifically, the proposed site is in the Pintasan constituency, bordering the districts of Kota Marudu and Kota Belud, and near the Kota Belud coastal area.
“Hopefully, it will receive support from the local community, as the time has come for Kota Belud to have larger-scale economic activities such as an industrial park that can drive economic growth, in addition to Kota Belud town,” he said.
