KOTA KINABALU: E-hailing company Maxim has issued an official response following a recent incident in Tawau involving one of its partner-drivers and a senior citizen, as reported by Nabalu News on 26 April.

In the statement issued today, Maxim clarified that the incident occurred while the driver had just completed his first ride and was on his way to look for another trip.

The company stated that the driver was travelling on the left side of the road when a woman suddenly crossed from the opposite side.

"The driver, unaware of her presence in the middle of the road, was unable to avoid the collision.

“Our partner-driver showed full cooperation by remaining at the scene until the ambulance arrived and later providing a statement to the police,” it said.

Maxim added that the driver is currently taking a short break from e-hailing services as his vehicle is undergoing maintenance

The company expressed sympathy to the victim and underscored the importance of road safety for all users.

“Road safety is a matter of life and death. We urge the public to always be aware of vehicles, observe signage, and practice basic road safety.

"On our side, the company also helps to educate partner-drivers by coordinating and collaborating with driving schools throughout the country and sharing awareness," it said.
