RANAU: The construction of the new Ranau District Council Office is a timely move to ensure the district continues to progress in line with current needs.

Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam, who is also the Minister of Local Government and Housing, said the establishment of a more conducive office was essential to accommodate the growing needs of the community while ensuring smoother and more efficient administration.

“The construction of this District Council building began seven years ago and is now fully completed."

“Therefore, the new office is a timely step to ensure Ranau continues to develop in line with present-day requirements,” he said when officiating at the opening of the new building here today."

He said the facility would strengthen the capacity of the Ranau District Council staff in managing community affairs, including infrastructure development, public maintenance, revenue management and the implementation of community programmes.

The new office, he added, also symbolises the State Government’s aspirations to enhance the effectiveness of public service delivery at the district level.

“I am confident that with this facility, the staff of the Ranau District Council will be able to carry out their responsibilities in a more comfortable, productive and professional environment,” said the Kundasang Assemblyman.

He stressed that the office would not only serve as a centre for official administration, but also as a point of reference for the community and a symbol of public trust in the State Government.

Dr Joachim emphasised that every officer and staff member must fully utilise the new facility by improving efficiency, upholding integrity, and delivering people-friendly services.

“This office was built for the people, and it is they who should benefit the most from it,” he said.

He further noted that the success of an organisation does not depend solely on a building, but on the spirit, integrity and commitment of its workforce in fulfilling their responsibilities.

“This building is only the beginning. Its success depends on how well it is utilised to deliver the best service to the community,” he added.

According to him, Ranau’s development is aligned with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development agenda and remains a priority of the State Government to ensure the district is not left behind in terms of infrastructure, public amenities, economic opportunities and the people’s wellbeing.

He stressed that Ranau, while widely recognised as a major tourism destination, must also emerge as a progressive and prosperous district in every aspect of community life.

At the same time, he expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the completion of the new office, including contractors, consultants, Ranau District Council staff and others who contributed their energy and support.

“Without the cooperation of all parties, this project could not have been realised. I hope this spirit of teamwork will continue to drive more development projects in Ranau in the future,” he said.

Among those present were Ranau Member of Parliament, Datuk Jonathan Yasin; representative of the Minister of Finance and Karanaan Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun; Datuk Faimin Kamin; Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and Paginatan Assemblyman, Juis Konsuling; Permanent Secretary to the Ministry, Datuk Dr Jamili Nais; Ranau District Officer and Chairman of the Ranau District Council, Tinus Manggam; Executive Officer, Elmer Endra M. Sator; District Chief, OKK Muhasip Ruman; and Dominic Ghanie.
