KUNAK: The Kunak New Township is poised to become a transformative landmark in the district’s development, representing a bold vision for the future of Sabah’s east coast. Spearheaded by the Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kunak, Datuk Norazlinah Arif, this ambitious mega project will revitalise the area and open new avenues for economic growth, employment, and modern living.
Spanning 107 acres in Simpang 4, the township is designed as a comprehensive, integrated community that will serve as a catalyst for progress in Kunak.
Norazlinah, who led a dedicated presentation meeting for the project, reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that Kunak keeps pace with Sabah’s broader development initiatives.

“This is more than just a development; it’s a new chapter for Kunak,” she said.
“We cannot wait for perfection before we begin. Our goal is to swiftly bring about positive change and ensure that Kunak is not left behind in the state’s march forward.”
The Kunak New Township is meticulously planned as a holistic development area divided into three main zones: commercial, residential, and light industrial.

The Commercial Zone will feature a vibrant mix of amenities, including restaurants, double-storey shops, a hypermarket, cinema, petrol station, and a modern bus terminal, creating a bustling hub for residents and visitors alike.
The Residential Zones will comprise 278 terraced houses and 83 semi-detached homes, designed to meet the needs of families and young professionals.
The Light Industrial Zone will include 37 industrial lots, aimed at attracting investment and generating employment opportunities to sustain the community’s growth.

The project’s strategic layout is expected to foster a balanced, self-sufficient township that integrates business, living, and industrial activity seamlessly.
Recent planning sessions, led by Norazlinah and involving key technical agencies and stakeholders, including the Kunak District Officer, Majaran Osman; the Kunak District Council Executive Officer, Mohd Nazri Pintal; Assistant District Officer (Development), Intan Rahimah Kabimbangan; Mahasitah Amin; representatives from developer Amazing Synergy Sdn Bhd; and Innotech Design Architects Sdn Bhd, have set the stage for the township’s realisation.
The official timeline for commencement will be announced soon, pending technical approvals and site preparations.
Norazlinah expressed her appreciation to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor for his unwavering support of balanced development across Sabah.
She highlighted that under Hajiji’s progressive leadership, many projects once considered impossible are now becoming reality, with the Kunak New Township receiving strategic backing through the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan (PGRS).
“This project embodies my vision for Kunak, to elevate it to the same level as Sabah’s more developed districts. If we do not champion Kunak’s growth, who will?” she declared.
“I remain committed to advocating for our community and ensuring that Kunak’s potential is fully realised.”
With the launch of Kunak New Township, a new era of innovation and development is set to dawn, promising a brighter, more prosperous future for all residents of Kunak and reaffirming the district’s vital role in Sabah’s ongoing growth story.
