KOTA KINABALU: Despite the extended holiday period in September, the All-New Proton X50 maintained its robust sales momentum, leading Malaysia’s SUV segment with a total of 2,994 units sold. To support this increasing demand, Proton is further enhancing its after-sales capabilities in Sabah, reaffirming the company’s dedication to its expanding customer base in East Malaysia.
At the centre of this effort is the Regional Parts Centre (RPC) in Kota Kinabalu, the established logistics backbone for Proton in East Malaysia. This facility plays a crucial role in ensuring that urgent service parts can reach dealers within just one day, while routine stock replenishment is typically fulfilled within two days. With ample inventory levels, the RPC is fully equipped to support the growing Proton X50 fleet, alongside other Proton models.
Strategically located in the commercial hub of Inanam, Kota Kinabalu, the RPC was established last year and spans approximately 28,000 square feet. It handles an average of 15 to 20 containers each month, with the capacity to unload up to six containers simultaneously. The centre maintains a stock level sufficient for three to three and a half months of demand. Its central location offers added convenience to both customers and dealers, while also being capable of receiving direct imports when necessary, further strengthening the supply chain for Sabah and northern Sarawak.
“Sabah remains one of Proton’s most important growth markets in East Malaysia. Our Kota Kinabalu parts hub has the capacity to fulfil up to 6,000 dealer orders each month, helping to ensure fast and reliable service for our customers,” said Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton Edar.
East Malaysia contributed 20.6% of Proton’s nationwide sales in 2025, highlighting the region’s significance to the company’s overall performance. Year-to-date growth in the region continues to be driven by popular models such as the Saga (15,438 units), Persona (2,496 units), and X50 (1,649 units).
To sustain this growth, Proton is implementing the Proton Operational Excellence (POE) programme across Sabah. This initiative sets measurable standards for service processes, technical competence, stock control, and customer experience. Dealerships are reviewed monthly, with performance results shared transparently to encourage ongoing improvement and healthy competition. Top-performing outlets are recognised through the prestigious 5-Star Dealer Award, and quarterly knowledge-sharing roadshows are organised to disseminate best practices across the network.
“Our goal is to instil confidence in every Proton owner, ensuring that support is always accessible and efficient. Reinforcing the strength of our parts and service network reflects our commitment to delivering outstanding customer experiences, as our presence continues to grow in East Malaysia,” Zhang said.
