KOTA KINABALU: The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl (RCKK Pearl) is keen to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS) on its Kelip-Kelip Eco-Tourism Initiative, an environmental conservation project based at Kg Darau near here.

The Club is undertaking a project that combines mangrove restoration with firefly habitat preservation, alongside active community engagement, with the goal of establishing a sustainable eco-tourism destination that benefits both the environment and the local community.

A delegation from RCKK Pearl, led by President Chendramata Hj Sinteh (2024–2025), recently presented their collaboration proposal to Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew during a courtesy call. The delegation also included Immediate Past President Rosie Chong Fung Fung, President-elect Datin Jeanette Tambakau, Past President Datuk Aminah Ambrose, and Vice-President Adelina Adna.

Chendramata emphasised the importance of the Ministry joining forces with RCKK Pearl as a key partner, particularly through financial support to help realise the project's full potential.

"Your support will significantly enhance the impact of this initiative and help us achieve our shared environmental and community objectives more effectively," she stated.

The Minister will be the guest of honour at the official launch and unveiling of the Kelip-Kelip Rehabilitation Site and Mangrove Planting at Kg Darau, scheduled for 5 September from 6pm to 9pm.

She reaffirmed the State Government’s dedication to sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.

The launch event will feature mangrove planting, environmental education sessions, a guided boat tour along the Darau River, and displays showcasing community-led conservation efforts.

Also in attendance was the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Datuk Josie Lai.
