KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (SEC), in collaboration with the EcoCampus Management Centre of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), successfully conducted a beach clean-up at Tanjung Aru Beach on 23rd May 2025.

A total of 91 volunteers from both SEC and UMS participated in the initiative, which was jointly coordinated by Kevin Padasian, Head of Corporate Services and Property at SEC, and Professor Dr Awangku Hassanal Bahar bin Pengiran Bagul, Director of the UMS EcoCampus Management Centre.

The initiative aimed to remove marine debris and raise public awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship within the local community.

By the conclusion of the activity, volunteers had collected a total of 119.9 kilograms of waste—underscoring the persistent need for collective and sustained efforts to protect our beaches and marine ecosystems.

This clean-up was carried out under the banner of SEC’s ongoing Green Ambassador Programme, an internal platform that enables SEC employees to propose and implement sustainable CSR initiatives on a monthly basis.

The beach clean-up marks the first of six impactful projects selected from submissions across SEC’s various divisions and individuals, reflecting the company’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and support for green initiatives.

With further initiatives in the pipeline, SEC reinforces its message that sustainability is not merely a trend, but a shared responsibility—one that begins with each of us.

The collaboration between SEC and UMS also serves as a compelling example of how corporate and academic institutions can unite in pursuit of a common goal founded on environmental responsibility.
