KENINGAU: The Chairman of the Kampung Tangkongon Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), Venesius Posius Uddie, has warned the public against using the village's concrete bridge as a hangout or “healing” spot.
His remarks follow viral photos showing individuals lounging on the bridge and obstructing traffic. He stressed that such behaviour endangers road users, especially drivers coming from below who may have limited visibility.
“Relax if you must, but do so safely off to the side. Don’t block the road , it’s dangerous,” he said.

The bridge, initiated by Bingkor Assemblyman Datuk Robert Tawik, connects SK Kampung Baru to several surrounding villages and agricultural areas. It replaced a low-level crossing often rendered impassable during heavy rain.
Venesius reminded the public of a past drowning incident beneath the bridge site, urging that safety take precedence over leisure.
“Don’t wait for another tragedy,” he added.
Social media users echoed the safety concerns, noting that most loiterers are not local residents and often park their vehicles along the bridge, worsening visibility. Suggestions include regular patrols, warning signage, and stricter enforcement.
Venesius urged the community to value the bridge as a vital facility secured through the people’s voice.
