PENAMPANG: Donggongon town is set to revive its night market with the upcoming launch of the Donggongon Nite Market on 26 April 2025. The market will be situated along the roadway in front of the Tamu Sangadau site, between the Petronas petrol station and the roundabout.

During the recent meeting of the organising committee, Datuk Stephen Sampil, the event's chairman, emphasised that a primary goal of the night market is to provide micro and small traders with a platform to showcase and sell their products. This initiative aligns with the Madani government’s vision of enhancing the standard of living and economic status of the people.

The night market aims to position Donggongon and the Penampang Municipality as a must-visit destination, particularly following its recent elevation to municipal status.

"Donggongon serves as the socio-economic and commercial hub of Penampang. Establishing a bustling night market is both timely and fitting, especially given the high vehicle ownership among the local population, which facilitates easy access," Stephen explained.

In addition to supporting local entrepreneurs, the night market will offer a range of attractions, providing residents of Penampang and nearby areas with an enjoyable evening experience that highlights the unique offerings of Donggongon, especially after sunset.

Stephen expressed his gratitude to Francis Chong, President of the Penampang Municipal Council, for his invaluable contributions to the event. He also acknowledged the support of Datuk Ewon Benedick, the Penampang Member of Parliament and Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative, for his efforts in bringing this vision to life.

The Donggongon Nite Market is organised by the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in collaboration with the Penampang Municipal Council and five other trade and business associations. The market will operate every Saturday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, featuring a diverse array of food, beverages, value-added products, and various entertainment options.

“We invite the public to support this event by visiting our participating entrepreneurs at the night market. We are confident that everyone will find something of interest and enjoy their time at the Donggongon Nite Market,” Stephen encouraged.
