KOTA KINABALU: Two localities in Tawau with a cumulative total of 13 Covid-19 cases as of today will be placed under 14 days of enhanced movement control (EMCO) starting April 16.

Local Government and Housing Datuk Masidi Manjun said the localities involved are Taman Tawau Lama and Kg Batu Payung.

"Nine individuals in Taman Tawau Lama have undergone Covid-19 screening to date with five of the test samples came back positive.

"Meanwhile, in Kg Batu Payung, a total of eight out of 12 individuals have tested positive," he said in his statement today.

The Health Ministry has confirmed that the Covid-19 infectivity rate in both the localities is high, Masidi added.

"After a joint risk assessment with various agencies from the MCO Technical Committee and on the advice of the health ministry, the state government has agreed to implement EMCO in these localities from April 17-30.

"The implementation of EMCO in the localities is to ensure that the movement of the residents can be controlled in order to prevent spread of Covid-19 outside of the community."
