PENAMPANG: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) would like to clarify that the recent announcement of their intention to contest the N26 Moyog seat in the upcoming Sabah State Election stems from their deep commitment and responsibility to the people of this constituency.

It's UPKO Penampang Information Secretary Nicholas Toidis said it is a local Sabah party, founded and led by Sabahans who understand the cultural roots, needs, and aspirations of our people.

"Our participation in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition does not signify a loss of identity, but rather represents a strategic effort to strengthen Sabah’s voice at the national level, ensuring that the state’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) continue to be defended with dignity and effectiveness."

"The announcement of Datuk Donald J. Mojuntin, son of the late Datuk Peter Mojuntin, a revered Sabah leader, as our candidate is not a unilateral move nor an attempt to sideline our PH partners," he said.

Instead, it is an early step in responding to the wishes of the Moyog electorate, who are seeking experienced, people-oriented leadership with a proven record of fighting for Sabah’s rights.

"We are aware of recent statements from some PH component parties expressing disagreement with the announcement. "

However, UPKO remains confident that the spirit of unity within PH will continue to serve as a vital foundation as we face the 17th State Election (PRN17).

Nicholas said, "We believe that discussions and negotiations will proceed in a mature and respectful manner, for the sake of a shared victory."

"To those who champion the slogan “Sabah for Sabahans”, we say this clearly:

UPKO is Sabah for Sabahans.

We are not outsiders. We are not riding on anyone’s platform. We have built and defended Sabah’s rights from the very beginning."

To the people of Moyog, UPKO calls on you to once again strengthen our community unity and the spirit of Momogun, he stressed.

"We need a representative who is not only known, but who truly understands, fights for, and stands with the people, through hardship and triumph alike."

"We are ready to contest.

We are ready to serve.

We are ready to carry Moyog’s voice to the state and national levels."
