KOTA KINABALU: Thirty-five families from Kg Baru Luyang expressed their heartfelt gratitude for receiving food baskets just before Christmas last year. This thoughtful initiative brought much-needed relief to the community during a season typically associated with celebration and togetherness.

Jenson Masuin, the head of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) in Kg Baru Luyang, highlighted the profound impact of this generous gesture by UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick. "We are deeply appreciative of the support shown by Datuk Ewon. These food baskets are a lifeline for so many families in our village," Jenson remarked.

Many residents in Kg Baru Luyang engage in manual labour jobs, including roles as cleaners and retired labourers, which often leaves them struggling to make ends meet.

"These recipients are genuinely in need," Jenson continued, "and I am truly glad they received the food baskets. It means a great deal to them during these challenging times." The baskets were filled with essential items such as rice, instant noodles, canned goods, and other staples that provided a comforting boost to the recipients.

Alih Justine Lainul, 72, one of the recipients, penned a heartfelt message of appreciation: "Thank you so much, Datuk Ewon Benedick, for your generous donation of food baskets. We are sincerely grateful for your kindness."

Yaling Liman, 74, echoed Alih’s sentiments, sharing how much the food basket meant to his family, alleviating some of their worries.

"Our work doesn't stop here," he stated. "I will strive to bring our community's issues to light and seek supportive solutions for a better future."
