KUALA LUMPUR: The Visit Malaysia 2026 Countdown Festival at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur was celebrated in a vibrant and meaningful atmosphere, drawing strong public participation as Malaysians and visitors gathered to welcome the New Year.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the event’s success was made possible by the overwhelming support of the public, visitors and tourists who came together to mark the transition into the new year.

In a Facebook post, he expressed his highest appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for spending time with the public on the special occasion, describing the Prime Minister’s presence as a reflection of the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to engaging with the people and supporting efforts to drive the nation’s tourism and creative industries forward.

Tiong also thanked guests and foreign diplomats in attendance, noting that their presence demonstrated strong international support for Malaysia’s tourism, arts and cultural sectors.

According to the minister, the festival went beyond entertainment, featuring a wide range of cultural performances that showcased Malaysia’s rich heritage and identity alongside appearances by talented local artistes. He said the blend of traditional arts and modern entertainment underscored the continued relevance of culture as a key attraction in urban tourism experiences.

“The organisation of events such as this enlivens city spaces, stimulates the local economy, supports artists and creative industry players, and strengthens Kuala Lumpur’s image as a dynamic, inclusive world-class city,” he said.

This approach, he added, remains a key focus of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture as Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia 2026.

Tiong also conveyed his gratitude to all parties involved in making the event a success, including organisers, artistes, strategic partners and behind-the-scenes personnel.

In conjunction with the New Year, he extended his best wishes to Malaysians and international friends, expressing hope that the year ahead would bring well-being, prosperity and renewed hope.

He called on all stakeholders to continue strengthening the tourism, arts and culture sectors as drivers of economic growth, platforms for unity and reflections of national identity. Expressing confidence ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026, Tiong said Malaysia would continue to stand out as a culturally rich, creative and competitive destination, as the nation moves forward towards a more progressive, united and cultured future.
