SLIM RIVER (PERAK): Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has provided educational assistance amounting to RM40,600 to a total of 812 Orang Asli school students here.

The educational assistance was delivered at the "Back To School" event for the Orang Asli community in Perak, held at SK Pos Tenau, Slim River, officiated by the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, today.

Speaking to reporters, Ewon said that YBR has been providing educational assistance since 2015 to alleviate the burden of parents or guardians in preparing their children for the start and continuation of the schooling session.

He said that the cash assistance was specifically given to B40 families to help with the purchase of school supplies for their children, such as uniforms, bags, school shoes, and so on.

"I want to see Yayasan Bank Rakyat continuously strengthened and be able to help even more students in need of educational assistance throughout the country.

"YBR not only provides assistance to primary and secondary schools but also offers flexible study financing to students in higher education institutes," he said.

Ewon hopes that similar programmes will continue and that the funding for educational assistance can be increased in the future to enable more students to benefit from it.

"This is in line with the vision of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government's goal of eradicating poverty starting with the distribution of educational assistance or study financing to students in need, especially among the B40 community," he said.

Also present were the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Datuk Philip Lasimbang, the CEO of YBR, Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani, and the Chairman of the Perak Orang Asli Association, Dato’ Suki Mee.
