KOTA KINABALU: A total of 141 teams comprising local and international participants in the 10th Sabah FCAS International Dragon Boat Race 2025 gathered for a vibrant Sunset Beach Party held at Likas Bay on Friday.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Christina Liew, welcomed the teams, stating,

“I am delighted to see so many teams from different countries – Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Brunei Darussalam – coming together here in beautiful Kota Kinabalu to share in this unique experience.”

Liew praised the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) for reaching the 10th edition of the event, calling it a remarkable achievement that reflects the Federation’s dedication, teamwork, and vision under the leadership of its President, Tan Sri T.C. Goh.

“As the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, I am proud to support events like this that blend sport, tourism and culture. While dragon boat racing is steeped in tradition, what FCAS is doing here ensures that this heritage not only survives but flourishes in a truly global setting,” she added.

The Minister emphasised that the dragon boat race has grown beyond a mere sporting event, serving as a platform for friendship, cultural exchange and community spirit.

Liew also highlighted the significance of the timing, noting,

“This year is particularly special, as your visit to Sabah coincides with one of our most important festivals – Kaamatan, the Harvest Festival.

“It is a time when we express gratitude, unity and blessings with our indigenous communities, particularly the Kadazandusun people. For those of you visiting Sabah for the first time, you are in for a memorable experience.

“You will not only enjoy the thrill of racing on the water, but also the colours, music, cuisine and cultural richness that Kaamatan brings,” she said.
