TENOM: A total of 19 students from the Melalap State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency who have secured offers to further their studies at institutions of higher learning for the January intake received education assistance at a presentation ceremony held at the Melalap ADUN Service Centre here today.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry, who is also Melalap ADUN, Datuk Jamawi Jaafar, said the assistance was extended to students pursuing diploma and degree programmes, continuing a long-standing education assistance initiative implemented in the constituency.
“In this first phase, 19 students have received assistance. I hope this will help ease the financial burden on parents and support the initial expenses of our children as they embark on their university studies,” he said in his address.

Jamawi said the assistance was not only aimed at providing financial relief, but also at encouraging young people in Melalap to continue pursuing education and striving for academic excellence.
He also conveyed greetings from the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, and noted that the State Government provides various education assistance initiatives for students enrolling in institutions of higher learning.
Among the assistance offered, he said, is a one-off financial aid of RM2,000 for degree students and RM1,500 for diploma students.
“In addition, students from the B40 group may apply for computer assistance, while those studying at government campuses are eligible for annual flight ticket assistance of RM600,” he said.
Jamawi stressed that information on education assistance provided by the Government must be disseminated more widely, as there are still students and parents who are unaware of the availability of such support.
He therefore called on community leaders at the village level, including Village Heads, Chairpersons of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), Native Chiefs and Deputy Native Chiefs, to play a proactive role in sharing this information with local communities.
In a separate programme, Jamawi officiated the Tenom Champions League JJCup 2025/2026, accompanied by Community Development Leader Denesly Justin, Tenom District Executive Officer Mumin Amsah, and several other local leaders from the Melalap constituency.
