SANDAKAN : A total of 375 Year One pupils from six primary schools in the Sungai Manila State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency benefited from the Back-to-School programme held at Dewan Taman Cahaya here today.
The Sungai Manila State Assemblyman (ADUN), Hazem Mubarak Musa, said the programme received an overwhelmingly positive response from parents and pupils alike, clearly demonstrating the need for such welfare initiatives to be continued on a consistent basis.
According to him, the programme was the second activity in a series of community-based programmes planned for this year, following a free haircut programme organised last week as an early preparation for the new school term.

“Today, we distributed school supplies to the pupils involved and also provided cakes in conjunction with birthday celebrations as a token of appreciation and to enliven the atmosphere,” he said when met by the media after the programme.
He added that many more welfare programmes would continue to be implemented from time to time, including special initiatives in conjunction with the month of Ramadan, in line with efforts to engage with the people and ease the burden of those in need.
In another development, Hazem also expressed his appreciation to the Chief Minister of Sabah for the trust placed in him through his appointment as Chairman of Sawit Kinabalu.

He said the position is usually held by the Chief Minister himself, and therefore the appointment represents a major responsibility that he will carry out with full commitment.
“Given that Sungai Manila is a transmigration settlement area whose population largely depends on the palm oil industry, I hope this role can be utilised to assist the local community,” he said.
He stated that he would begin his official duties next week, with a focus on ensuring that Sawit Kinabalu remains a strategic state asset managed with integrity and competitiveness, while delivering benefits to both the Sabah government and its people.
