93% Turnout Recorded in Early Voting for Kinabatangan and Lamag By-elections

KINABATANGAN: The early voting process for the Parliamentary by-election (PRK) for P.187 Kinabatangan and the State Legislative Assembly by-election (PRK) for N.58 Lamag, Sabah was conducted smoothly today, with a voter turnout of 93 per cent.


According to the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR), early voting began at 8am. and concluded at 5pm at the sole early voting centre located at the Kinabatangan District Police Headquarters. A total of 189 police personnel were eligible to vote early, of whom 176 cast their ballots.


Secretary of the Election Commission of Malaysia, Datuk Khairul Shahril bin Idrus, praised the election personnel for their professionalism and commitment in ensuring the smooth conduct of the process.


“The Election Commission extends its congratulations and appreciation to the Returning Officer and the entire team for carrying out their duties extremely well today,” he said.


He also expressed gratitude to various agencies and stakeholders for their cooperation.


“Our sincere thanks go to the Sabah State Secretary’s Office, the Sabah Federal Secretary’s Office, the Royal Malaysia Police, members of the media, and all parties involved, both directly and indirectly, for the cooperation and support extended to the Election Commission,” he added.


The early voting exercise forms part of the overall electoral process ahead of polling day for both by-elections.
