KOTA KINABALU: Approximately 10,000 visitors attended the Christmas Open House jointly organised by the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STARSABAH) at the Hongkod Koisaan Hall (KDCA) two days ago.
This event is historic, marking the first collaboration between these two political parties to host such an occasion, which reflects their commitment to unity.
The Acting President of PBS and Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam, referred to this partnership as a powerful symbol of solidarity between the two parties.
"This year's celebration is special as it was held in collaboration with STARSABAH. I am truly grateful for this remarkable turnout and hope it demonstrates the public's support for the coalition between PBS and STARSABAH," Dr. Joachim remarked.
He also conveyed Christmas greetings to the people of Sabah and encouraged everyone to celebrate the season in harmony.
Furthermore, he urged the community to exercise caution on the roads as the new year approaches and to refrain from driving under the influence.
The President of STARSABAH, Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, also took the opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025.
"We are very fortunate in Sabah to celebrate various festivals together. This is our uniqueness and advantage as the people of Sabah," he said.
He emphasised the importance of the spirit of family and unity in society, including at the political level.
In political developments, Dr. Joachim affirmed that PBS will continue to stand with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) no matter what happens.
"According to PBS policy, once we form a coalition, we will remain with GRS," he stated.
He also touched on the leadership transition within the party after Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Ongkili handed over the leadership baton to him. However, the official election will be determined at the congress expected to be held in October next year.
"Since next year is a state election year, we will postpone the party election to focus on election preparations," he added.
The Christmas Open House serves as an important platform to strengthen relationships among diverse communities and to demonstrate the commitment of both parties to bring unity to the people of Sabah.
