Angpao joy for senior citizens

PENAMPANG: One of the most delightful customs during the Chinese New Year is the act of giving "angpao" or red packets.
United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) carried out this custom by giving out angpao to seniors from the Penampang Senior Citizens Association, recently.
This contribution was carried out by UPKO deputy President Datuk Donald Mojuntin who represented UPKO President and Penampang Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Ewon Benedick during a dinner reception held in conjunction with the event.
During the event, Datuk Donald conveyed the MP's deep commitment to being closely connected to the community, including senior citizens, while embracing the rich diversity of culture and traditions within the constituency and beyond.
Meanwhile, the organizing chairman Chong Fuk Choi expressed his appreciation to Ewon who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative who had always been supportive and encouraging of their activities.
He stated that despite his busy schedule, the Minister didn’t forget to send his representatives, mainly the Vice President and his Political Secretary Carl Mossom to attend the auspicious event. He also stated that Ewon had accorded RM20,000 to go towards the function. RM5000 went towards the ang pao for senior citizens.
Meanwhile, Treasurer Alvin Lee also announced a surprise contribution of RM3,500 to cover the expenses of organising the senior citizens' event.
Also present during the event was Parliamentary Liaison Officer Bryan Matasing, among others.
