SINGAPORE: Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report reveals a significant shift among business travellers across Asia-Pacific, with an increasing number blending work commitments with leisure pursuits. An impressive 76% of surveyed professionals intend to combine business trips with personal leisure, with some markets seeing interest rates exceeding 90%, signalling a fundamental change in how corporate travel is approached, transforming airport layovers into extended getaways.

Business travel remains a priority for respondents in 2026, led by Indonesia at 27%, followed by the Philippines at 20% and Vietnam at 19%. However, the real story emerges once meetings conclude.

Among those planning business trips, the desire to extend stays for bleisure activities is particularly strong. In the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, over 85% of travellers expressed eagerness to prolong their trips for some downtime. Filipino respondents topped the bleisure rankings at 95%, with Thai travellers close behind at 92%, and Vietnamese at 86%.

In markets such as Japan and Indonesia, where traditional work cultures tend to be more reserved, many business travellers are embracing this trend. In Japan, 58% of professionals plan to add personal time to their business itineraries, while South Korea shows a notable adoption rate of 76%.

These findings reflect a broader industry trend, with the global leisure travel market projected to reach as much as US$1.71 trillion by 2032.

Omri Morgenshtern, Chief Executive Officer at Agoda, commented: “Across Asia-Pacific, we’re seeing professionals intentionally extending their work trips to enjoy local experiences and make the most of their time away. At Agoda, we’re dedicated to making it easy for travellers to seamlessly plan both their business and leisure activities, all in one place and at great rates.”
