BABY IN A BOX FOUND ABANDONED NEAR KUALA KANGSAR BANK

KUALA KANGSAR: A crying baby was found in a box abandoned in front of a stall opposite Maybank Kuala Kangsar this morning.

Kuala Kangsar district police chief, ACP Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob, said the stallholder found the baby boy with the umbilical cord still attached around 9am and informed the police.

“The baby’s cries were heard when the person was about to open the stall,” he said when contacted and added that the baby has been taken to Hospital Kuala Kangsar for a check-up.

He said investigations show that the infant was less than a day old when it was abandoned.

He said police are searching for the mother and that the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment. - Bernama
