KOTA KINABALU: Baloi Keninga, a traditional house representing the identity and heritage of the Keningau community, is set to welcome visitors during the Kaamatan Festival 2025, which will take place at Hongkod Koisaan, Penampang, on 30 and 31 May.
Located within the Koisaan Cultural Village (KCV), Baloi Keningau will be among the main highlights of this year’s celebration, themed “Kaamatan for All”.
The theme reflects the spirit of inclusivity and harmony, and emphasises the appreciation of cultural diversity within the Kadazandusun Murut (KDM) community and among all Malaysians.
Chairman of the KDCA Keningau Coordinating Committee, Rafie Robert, invited the public to visit Baloi Keningau and experience the cultural richness on display.
“We warmly welcome everyone to Baloi Keningau at the Koisaan Cultural Village. It is not just a traditional house, but a symbol of our community’s heritage and identity. Kaamatan is a celebration for all, and we are honoured to share our culture with the people of Malaysia,” he said.
According to Rafie, various cultural activities are scheduled to take place at KCV on 30 May, including traditional cooking demonstrations, handicraft exhibitions, and performances of traditional music and dance.
In particular, Baloi Keningau will feature performances such as the Murut Naabai ethnic dance, Dusun Lobu ethnic dance, and traditional musical instruments including the Tongunggu (bamboo music) and Sompoton.
The climax of the celebration will be held on 31 May with the National-level Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan beauty pageant, featuring representatives from across Sabah and other states in Malaysia.
Rafie noted that the competition not only showcases the grace and character of Kadazandusun women, but also highlights cultural knowledge and community unity.
“The Kaamatan Festival is a symbol of gratitude for the harvest and a celebration of unity among Malaysia’s diverse communities.
“KDCA Keningau invites all Malaysians to join in the festivities and celebrate our shared cultural heritage with pride,” he added.
