KOTA KINABALU: Borneo VeGO E-Transport, the first e-hailing application fully founded and developed by a local entrepreneur from Sabah, will open up more entrepreneurial opportunities in the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said this proves that Sabah entrepreneurs are capable of standing on par with global players, not only in terms of vision but also in the implementation of high-tech innovation.
“Congratulations to the Borneo Transport Entrepreneurs Cooperative Berhad (KUPBB) on the successful launch of Borneo VeGO E-Transport. This initiative is in line with the state government’s agenda to expand the digital economy, enhance the employability of the people, and modernise the services sector.
“This effort paves the way for more entrepreneurial opportunities, particularly in the rapidly growing transport sector. I have been informed that KUPBB has long-term goals to involve more local drivers, especially from rural communities in Sabah and Sarawak, so that they can earn a sustainable income through this platform.
“Therefore, Borneo VeGO is not merely an e-hailing app. It is a symbol of the boldness of local cooperatives in harnessing technology to empower communities and generate new economic opportunities,” he said during the launch ceremony of Borneo VeGO E-Transport at Padang Merdeka here, recently.
His speech was delivered by Sabah Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.
He also expressed hope that the Borneo VeGO service will expand to include food, beverage, and daily necessities delivery, thereby assisting small and medium-sized traders.
“This initiative not only makes life easier for the people but also broadens the market for local entrepreneurs. The state government fully supports efforts such as this because they help boost the local economy, reduce unemployment, and enhance public mobility more efficiently and safely,” he added.
In this regard, the Chief Minister called on all parties, including government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and the business community, to support Borneo VeGO.
“I am confident that the launch of Borneo VeGO today will open up new economic opportunities for more youth and innovators in Sabah,” he said.
