TENOM: In a landmark effort to uplift rural livelihoods, ONSOI Coffee, a homegrown ready-to-drink coffee brand from Tenom, has successfully organised a community empowerment programme at Padas Farmstay in Kampung Paal.

The one-day initiative brought together 32 coffee farmers from surrounding rural areas, equipping them with modern agricultural knowledge, practical skills and renewed motivation to enhance their livelihoods.

The programme featured expert-led sessions by the Tenom Department of Agriculture, covering key areas such as coffee cultivation technology, pest control, and harvest management.

Participants also took part in a hands-on pruning session to strengthen practical understanding.

A highlight of the event was an inspiring sharing by Tham, a former accountant who transitioned into a successful coffee farmer.

His personal journey underscored the potential of coffee farming as both a sustainable and rewarding career path.

The initiative was made possible with the support of Yayasan Hasanah and the Tenom Department of Agriculture, and was fully organised by ONSOI Coffee.

Sharon Voo, founder of ONSOI Coffee, said the programme reflects her commitment to grassroots development.

“I believe meaningful change begins at the grassroots. Through this programme, our farmers have gained not only practical knowledge but also renewed hope. My vision is to raise incomes, improve harvest quality, and inspire more young people in Sabah to view coffee farming as a viable and respected profession."

“Tenom coffee is one of Sabah’s iconic products, and I remain committed to promoting it through digital platforms while expanding our production capacity to make it accessible anytime, anywhere."

"I also hope government agencies and corporate partners will continue to support enterprises like ours in bringing Tenom coffee to a global audience. Tenom coffee and its farmers truly deserve greater recognition and support.”

The programme concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing increased confidence in adopting improved farming techniques and a strong motivation to boost productivity.

ONSOI Coffee is currently scaling up its production capacity, aiming to make Tenom’s signature coffee more widely available while maintaining a strong focus on community impact.
