BRL Clinches ASEAN Green Hotel Award, Boosting Malaysia’s Eco-Tourism Credentials

KOTA KINABALU: Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL), nestled within the pristine in Lahad Datu, has brought pride to Malaysia after securing the prestigious ASEAN Green Hotel Award at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026.


BRL was Malaysia’s nominee for the 10th ASEAN Green Hotel Award, held in on 30 January, having fulfilled the requirements set out under the ASEAN Tourism Standards 2026–2027, according to its chief executive officer, Freddie Coleman.


The lodge, a subsidiary of , was represented at the ceremony by its chief financial officer, Esner Chong, who received the award on its behalf.


The nomination was endorsed by the (Motac) following a comprehensive assessment process evaluating compliance with regional tourism standards, Freddie said.


He noted that the recognition reflects BRL’s longstanding commitment to sustainable tourism, rainforest conservation and meaningful community engagement.


The ASEAN Green Hotel Award honours accommodation providers that demonstrate exemplary environmental management practices and sustainable operational standards.


According to Freddie, the accolade places BRL among a select group of tourism establishments across ASEAN recognised for excellence in sustainability and environmental stewardship.


“The recognition underscores a long-term commitment, consistently upheld standards, responsible decision-making and excellence in service,” he said.


He added that such achievements strengthen confidence in ASEAN as a competitive and forward-looking tourism region, while highlighting the sustained efforts of industry stakeholders to elevate standards across Southeast Asia.
