SIBU: In his annual tradition of community engagement, Minister of Tourism Arts and Tourism, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing kicked off his Chinese New Year walkabouts in Sibu yesterday. Over the past two days, the Bintulu Member of Parliament visited ten households, personally extending New Year wishes to relatives, friends, and local residents in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
These visits form a vital part of Tiong’s festive season routine, serving not only as a gesture of goodwill but also as an opportunity to reconnect with the community and stay updated on local developments.
“Conversations in humble home settings often reveal perspectives and realities that formal meetings do not,” Tiong remarked.

“They help me better understand the day-to-day concerns on the ground and ensure that our policies and plans truly reflect the community’s needs.”
Tiong emphasised that such grassroots interactions are essential in ensuring that government efforts make a tangible difference in people's lives.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the unity and harmony that Sarawak is renowned for, rooted in mutual respect and trust among its diverse communities.
“Sarawak’s multicultural harmony must be protected. Issues should not be unnecessarily politicized, and social stability should never be compromised for short-term political gains,” he stated.
“Regardless of party affiliation, the people’s interests must come first.”
He urged all parties to avoid misunderstandings and foster a rational, inclusive society. Tiong also underscored the significance of unity within his political party, emphasizing that serving the people and advancing development should take precedence over political disputes.
