SEREMBAN: The Chinese New Year Carnival in Negeri Sembilan has not only enlivened the festive season but also strengthened local economic activity and tourism momentum, said Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing.
Tiong, who attended the carnival ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations, said the strong public turnout reflected the vibrant festive spirit and the unity of the local community.
“The presence of such a large crowd clearly illustrates the lively atmosphere, with the spirit of celebration felt in every corner. Events like this bring communities together while showcasing the cultural richness of our nation,” he said.
During the visit, Tiong also distributed “Fu” calligraphy stickers to visitors as a symbol of prosperity and well-being, while extending Chinese New Year greetings to the public.
He emphasised that the carnival serves as more than just a marketplace for festive goods, describing it as an important platform for small entrepreneurs and local traders to promote their products and creativity.
“In today’s era of mass production, handmade and original products are increasingly appreciated because they reflect the diligence, commitment and personal touch of their creators."
“More than 100 stalls participated this time, offering festive delicacies, handicrafts and decorative items. Initiatives like this open up opportunities for young people and creative entrepreneurs to turn their talents and passions into sustainable sources of income,” he said.
Tiong added that such carnivals not only stimulate local economic activity but also strengthen social ties and foster a spirit of togetherness within the community.
“Public support for local products acts as a catalyst for community economic growth and ensures that programmes like this can continue in the long term,” he said.
He noted that the Chinese New Year Carnival is increasingly becoming a key attraction during the festive season, drawing both domestic and international tourists eager to experience the unique celebrations in Negeri Sembilan.
“Negeri Sembilan is indeed welcoming a growing number of foreign visitors. However, our challenge is to ensure that this momentum is sustained and not merely seasonal.
“Through strategic planning and better coordination, we can encourage tourists to return consistently, creating a steady flow of visitors and driving continuous economic growth for the state,” he added.
