KOTA KINABALU: A female tourist from China was injured after reportedly being struck by an object fired from a moving vehicle on Jalan Kota Kinabalu Lama 2, near Public Bank, on the night of 8 December 2025.
The suspect is alleged to have used marble-sized pellets and targeted tourists from China.
According to the police, five (5) incidents occurred that night, although only three (3) reports were lodged. The incidents were reported to have taken place in front of Public Bank, in front of DBKK, and near the KK Bataras roundabout.
Police are currently tracing witnesses and dashcam owners, and are tracking down a suspect who was said to be travelling in a white car.
A large number of CCTVs in the city were found to be non-functional, and the police are now relying on CCTV footage from Public Bank on Jalan Pantai. The case is currently being investigated under Section 337 of the Penal Code.
The Ministry of Tourism Culture and Environment is closely monitoring developments through cooperation with the police and is serious about ensuring the safety of tourists, particularly foreign visitors in Sabah.
The Ministry also hopes that the authorities will take prompt action by enhancing security measures, ensuring CCTVs are functional, and strengthening patrols to safeguard public safety and maintain Sabah’s image as a safe tourist destination.
