KOTA KINABALU: The Citra Seni Sabah (CITRAS) 3.0 programme has once again brought together students from across the state, offering a vibrant platform to showcase artistic talent while nurturing patriotism and pride in Malaysia’s cultural heritage.
More than 400 students and teachers from five primary and five secondary schools took part in the finals held at 1Borneo Hypermall on Saturday night, presenting a variety of performances that highlighted Sabah’s cultural richness.
Officiating at the event, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew said CITRAS was more than a talent platform—it was an initiative that instilled national pride, honoured the sacrifices of freedom fighters, and fostered cultural appreciation among the younger generation.

“Through creative approaches and direct student involvement, CITRAS 3.0 raises awareness of our cultural diversity and the history of our national struggle, which must be remembered and passed on,” she said.
She added that the programme aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan, which emphasises culture as a foundation for harmony, social unity, and even future economic development.
Liew also applauded the Sabah State Cultural Board (LKNS) and the State Education Department for their joint efforts in organising what she described as a “highly significant” programme in shaping the identity and character of the younger generation.
Acknowledging the strong backing of the Sabah State Ministry of Finance, she said the government’s support for CITRAS reflects a firm commitment to uplifting arts, culture, and heritage across Sabah’s diverse communities.
“Investing in cultural programmes such as this should not be viewed as an expense, but as a long-term investment for the state and the nation,” she stressed.
The Minister further highlighted the importance of collaboration between government agencies, private organisations, and NGOs in promoting culture at the grassroots level, noting that such partnerships strengthen identity, enrich heritage, and foster unity.
She encouraged that CITRAS be further expanded in future years with even more diverse content, so that heritage values continue to flourish in the hearts of Sabah’s younger generation.
Also present at the ceremony were LKNS Chairman Dikin Hj Musah and General Manager Mackey Apison.
