SANDAKAN: The Karamunting Division Chief of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin, has emphasised that maintaining cleanliness in public areas is a shared responsibility, urging everyone to play their part in preventing the Bandar Ramai-Ramai Market from being labelled as “dirty”.

He made the call after the Karamunting Service Team and the Karamunting Assemblyman’s Task Force carried out a cleaning operation at the market’s main drain, which had become clogged due to irresponsible disposal of rubbish and cooking oil waste.

“Our team has cleaned this drain several times, yet the problem keeps recurring because some people continue to throw rubbish into it. I hope traders and visitors will be more mindful of the cleanliness of their surroundings,” he said.

George stressed that the market serves as an economic lifeline for many local traders and must be kept clean and comfortable to remain an attractive place for the community to shop for daily essentials.

“This market reflects our community’s image. If we want outsiders to come and support our local businesses, we must maintain its cleanliness. It’s not the responsibility of one party alone, it’s a collective effort,” he added.

He also expressed appreciation to the traders who cooperated in the cleaning activity and those who promptly reported the blocked drains, enabling swift action to be taken.

George said his team would continue regular monitoring and cleaning efforts in other public areas such as markets, parks and residential zones to ensure a clean, safe, and conducive environment for the community.
