KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor expressed his condolences to the family of Malaysia's fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night.
In his statement, Hajiji also prayed that the soul of the late Abdullah would be granted mercy and placed among the faithful and the righteous.
He described the fifth Prime Minister, who served from 2003 to 2009, as a leader who contributed significantly to the nation, having launched five Malaysian Economic Corridors during his administration, including the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) in 2008.
“Among the objectives of the SDC project is to make Sabah a gateway for trade, investment, and tourism, to create job opportunities, to enhance the technological awareness of the state, and to make it a comfortable and harmonious place to live, irrespective of race and religion. This project has provided numerous benefits to the development of the state.
“At the same time, Tun Abdullah, who led the country for six years, was a people-oriented leader, friendly and well-liked by many,” he said.
