TANJUNG MALIM, Perak: Sabah students, particularly those studying outside the state, must stay informed about the initiatives and developments undertaken by the state government.

The Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said students should make a personal effort to understand what is being implemented in Sabah and not be influenced by inaccurate narratives circulating elsewhere regarding the state administration.

According to him, it is important for students to be aware of the government’s actual efforts in driving development and resolving longstanding issues in Sabah.

“I am grateful that we have been able to re-establish the state government, and we will continue with the development policies we have planned and implemented,” he said.

“In this regard, we want students to know what the government is truly doing. We must find out personally and not be swayed by outside stories making various claims, when in fact the government is working hard to implement programmes for the people of Sabah.

“Believe me, I know many of you here come from the interior areas such as Keningau, as well as Tawau, Sandakan and other parts of Sabah. Ensure that you obtain accurate and correct information regarding the programmes and development currently being carried out,” he added.

He was speaking at the launch of the 2026 Graduate Rindu Sabah Assistance Initiative / Sabah Student Flight Ticket Subsidy (GRS SubFly) at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Perak on Thursday.

The 2026 GRS SubFly initiative will directly benefit 2,772 Sabah students currently pursuing their studies at UPSI.

The Chief Minister also reminded Sabah students who complete their studies at higher education institutions in Peninsular Malaysia or abroad to return and serve the state.

“If there is an opportunity, return to serve in Sabah and contribute your expertise, whether gained locally or overseas, to the state,” he said.

Earlier, Hajiji expressed pride in the growing number of Sabah students furthering their studies at UPSI, noting that 2,772 students from the state are currently enrolled at the university.

“I have been informed that there are 2,772 students here from Sabah — this is truly remarkable. What is important is that Sabah students here remain focused on their studies, as this is the key to future success.

“That is why I place special emphasis on education, because to me it is the primary key to advancing our state and nation in the years ahead.

“I am also proud to learn that many Sabah students are actively involved in activities that not only enhance the name of the university but also bring honour to Sabah. Our Sabah children are truly versatile.

“I was not aware that so many have represented our country in sports, culture and other fields. This is something we must continue — not only for ourselves and our families, but also for our state and nation,” he said.

In his speech, Hajiji also outlined several initiatives currently being undertaken by the state government, including efforts to resolve issues related to water supply, roads and electricity, which he said are expected to be addressed within the next one to two years.

He further highlighted measures to increase state revenue collection, enabling the government to channel benefits back to the people through various initiatives, including educational assistance and social welfare programmes.
